Hello, My name is Matt Tipton. Welcome to my blog. My family and I desire above all else to display the glory of Christ in the world by being obedient to His Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives. My hope is that as you read the posts here you are encouraged to seek Christ and the way of life that displays His glory.Elaine and I met in study hall when I was in 10th grade and she was in 9th grade at Germantown High School and we went on to attend college together at Union University in Jackson, TN. In August of 2000 we were married. I grew up at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis and at that time we go married I was interning in the Student Ministry at Germantown Baptist Church in Germantown, TN.
In August 2001 we moved to New Orleans, LA so that I could attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Honestly we went to New Orleans to get a degree and get out of town. The Lord had other plans for us. We quickly fell in love with the city and the students the Lord gave me the privilege to work with during my time in seminary. Even after I walked down the graduation isle we stayed and served at the Memorial Baptist Church. I learned a great deal about ministry serving in New Orleans... One of the big lessons was how to love people who are hurting. The Lord expanded my heart for the needy and broken-hearted during this season of life.
August 29, 2005 was a significant date in our lives. Hurricane Katrina changed everything for us. The storm wiped out the seminary where we lived, the church where we served and spread the community we had grown to love all over the country.
God is faithful. I began serving in the Student Ministry at ClearView Baptist Church in Franklin, TN in October of 2005. My time of ministry there was fantastic. It was a place of restoration for my family and I. God used this group of Christ followers to encourage us. He used this season of life to teach me some lessons that will shape the way I serve the Lord forever. I grew to love God's Word in ways I cannot explain. All I can really say is that when everything is gone you turn to those things that are eternal: God's Word, God's People and God's Presence. During my time at ClearView the Lord has blessed us with two beautiful children: Anna Claire and David Matthew.
Nearly four years into my time at ClearView the Lord began to teach me about radical obedience to His voice and His Word. For many months the Lord whispered in my heart that something different, something significant was coming...
In May 2009 the Lord made it clear that I was to resign from my position at ClearView and begin to prepare for what is next...
Well next is upon us! We are planting a church in New Orleans, LA. Our hope is that the Nations will know the greatness of Christ Jesus through this church.
